Police reported that a 28-year-old Miami man was injured in an accident with two unoccupied police SUV’s on Julia Tuttle Causeway.
According to authorities, a man in a truck that hit the two SUV’s was headed eastbound on Julia Tuttle Causeway. The two Florida Highway Patrol SUV’s were parked in the left lane collecting investigation evidence of a previous accident on the highway. The pickup hit the rear of the FHP SUV which was then pushed into the other SUV, police reported.
EMS arrived to the scene of the accident soon after it happened to administer first aid to the injured victims in the incident. Emergency crews reported that the driver of the truck, who had not been wearing a seat belt, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
EMS reported that one of the crew attending to the previous accident was struck by the FHP SUV after it was hit. He sustained injuries to his leg and was also transported to the hospital.
Officials say the incident is still under investigation and no further details were released.
Glen Levine, from the Law Firm of Anidjar and Levine, comments on this crash: “This was a serious accident that left a driver and an officer injured. Head-on accidents are one of the most dangerous kinds of accidents. This type of accident usually happens because of driver error, meaning they are preventable. Sadly, the innocent victims of these crashes are rendered powerless: often, there’s nothing you can do when an oncoming vehicle is bearing down on you, except brace for impact. We wish that all involved have a speedy recovery from their injuries in this terrible accident.”
