The Police Department has reported that a couple is in critical condition after a speeding driver crashed into their vehicle.
Officers said the crash happened on Wonderwood Drive near Girvin Road in Jacksonville. The couple was driving home before being crashed into by the speeding driver.
The speeding driver was driving and lost control of his 2013 Ford Explorer. He ran the red light and crashed head on into the couple’s car sending them into a ditch, eyewitnesses said.
The husband suffered injuries to his shoulder. His wife suffered severe injuries to her legs and ribs, report said.
Authorities said emergency responders transported them on to the nearest hospital for treatment. No information about their identities or state of health has been released to the press.
The speeding driver also suffered serious but not life threatening. He had an injury to his arm and was also transported to the hospital for treatment. He was asked to perform a sobriety test to determine if he was under the influence of any substance, which he passed.
Officers said the driver will be charged. An investigation is still ongoing.
