Multiple persons were injured and several other cars damaged in a hit-and-run accident on Las Olas Boulevard and AIA in Fort Lauderdale.
Fort Lauderdale Police and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to the collision which left a mother and her two children injured. Police say the driver of a white BMW struck three pedestrians on the sidewalk and several other vehicles including a city bus before taking off on foot.
“The car came from the left hand lane really fast and hit the car beside it and then came towards us,” said Claudia Martinez, the children’s mother. “Just hit my family and me.”
Police transported the mother and her two children to Broward Health Medical Center. The children were said to be 4 and 5 years old. Their condition remains unknown.
According to officials, the driver abandoned his car and eventually fled the scene on foot. Police continue to investigate and seek more information on the driver.
Glen Levine, from the Law Firm of Anidjar and Levine, comments on this crash: “In representing a prior client of ours with similar type of situation, client was boarding the County bus which was outfitted with cameras that caught every angle of the accident scene. Because it was a city bus, we were able to get the film footage under the freedom for information act. In this case at our firm we would search the crash scene for additional surveillance cameras for any footage that would identify the driver that fled the scene. The steps taken immediately after an accident are perhaps the most important.”
