Bicyclist Severely Injured In A Northwest 17th Avenue Accident

Police said the victim sustained serious injuries at the scene of the accident which occurred on Northwest 17th Avenue.

Report says a 71-year-old man has been confirmed to be seriously injured by the Miami Police department after a driver struck his bicycle.

The driver was operating a 2015 Nissan Sonata and was traveling southbound on Northwest 17th Avenue when he struck the bicyclist. The cyclist was also traveling in the same direction in the bike lane, troopers said.

Eyewitnesses said the crash left the cyclist with multiple injuries. He was ejected from his bike being thrown several feet. Bystander rushed to help the elderly man and called 911. On arrival, he was treated and transported to the nearest hospital where he from his injuries, officials said.

No information about the victim has been released to the public at this time.

The driver was said to have suffered minor injury to his arm which was treated at the scene, troopers said. An investigation is still ongoing.
