A wrong-way driver struck and killed a 24-year-old Pompano Beach woman and seriously injured the driver of the car that was struck, Florida Highway Patrol reports.

According to Troopers, the driver of a pickup truck that caused the accident was heading north in the southbound lanes.  This was on Interstate 95.  The accident occurred near mile marker 269 in Ormond Beach, when he hit a sedan in a head-on collision.

Troopers stated that the driver’s pickup flipped after the initial crash; however, he was able to get out of the car on his own. Subsequently, first responders transported him to the hospital with minor injuries.

Additionally, first responders transported the driver of the sedan, Tracy Williams, aged 30, to the Medical Center with sustained injuries. Regrettably, her passenger, Annie Martins, was confirmed dead at the scene of the accident, according to the FHP.

Authorities closed all southbound lanes of I-95 at mile 273 and U.S. Highway 1 because of the accident.

The crash remains under investigation.
