It was reported that a woman sustained severe injuries in a crash involving two vehicles on Central Avenue.
The report says the crash occurred near a Mobil gas station in the Redevelopment area. The reports indicated that a vehicle t-boned another vehicle at the intersection of Tamiami Trail and Central Avenue. This happened when one of the vehicles allegedly ran a red light while approaching the intersection.
According to the report, the driver of a Toyota Camry refused to yield to the red light while approaching from Central Avenue. The Camry then t-boned a Chevrolet Malibu on the driver’s side.
The 23-year-old driver of the Toyota Camry did not suffer any injuries. The Malibu driver, a 35-year-old woman, reportedly remained trapped in the vehicle after being struck. Upon arrival, emergency responders extricated the woman and transported her to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.
Police continue to investigate the crash. They have yet to release any information regarding pending charges.
