A traffic accident along U.S. Highway 1 in Broward sent two people to the hospital, according to authorities.

According to the news release by the officials, the driver of a Hyundai Accent was trying to turn left from the northbound lane. Another driver was traveling north when she tried to pass the first vehicle on the right shoulder and  lost control. The vehicle crossed into the southbound lane and struck a Ford Focus head on.

Troopers say both the driver of the Ford Focus and his passenger were seriously injured and taken to the hospital. The driver who caused the accident also sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

Police say the crash remains an active investigation. More information would be made available once investigation is complete. No other details were released.
