Report says a man from Fort Myers died in a single-vehicle accident in Manatee County and his passenger is in critical condition.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, the Fort Myers man was identified as a 30-year-old Darryl Byrd. He was reportedly driving southbound on Interstate 75 when he attempted to exit at mile marker 224 at a high rate of speed.
It was reported that Byrd and his passenger, 20-year-old Terrance Montgomery of Fort Myers, traveled onto the grass shoulder while taking the exit. Consequently, Byrd lost control of his vehicle and began rotating back across the roadway to the other shoulder of the exit ramp. Report says He collided with a palm tree before the vehicle came to final rest in Manatee County.
According to FHP, Byrd was dead on scene and Montgomery was taken to Blake Medical Center for critical injuries.
